WHY are the stakes so high?

Why should anyone care except those who are gay? How would the outcome of this vote affect non-=gays?

This article quoted a woman who claimed gays want special rights. Why do gays want to marry? It's called 1,100+ financial benefits that gays are currently deprived of.

Why are church groups so interested in the outcomes of these votes? Are all church members gay? If not, then why do they care who gets married to what as long as it isn't part of their own family? It's nice if these people want to save my soul but that decision should be mine, not theirs. If I'm Jewish does that disqualify me from being saved?

If so then why bother at all with the gay stuff on top of all that?

There are people contributing money to kill gay initiatives from all over the country.

WHY? What is it they hope to achieve by keeping gays from having the same rights as straights, rights that don't touch strangers in any way shape or form? The 1,100 financial marriage rights can add up to over $100,000 in a person's lifetime. Why should gay people be put at an automatic disadvantage like this?

By the way, voting on gay marriage or on any issue of civil rights is unconstitutional!

Since when do voters get an opportunity to vote to discriminate against any group because of color, orientation, religioous beliefs, etc.?

Every issue having to do with gay rights that ends up on a ballot should not be there.

If we have decided to allow the public to vote their prejudices, and determine issues of civil rights, we can decide to bring back slavery; bring back segregation; bring back the ban on interracial marriage.

Honestly? If I had the opportunity to vote on whether or not to allow interracial marriage today, I'd welcome the opportunity to vote it down this time. This would be my payback for all those people I supported years ago when we were still fighting for civil rights for all (except for gays it seems). The very people I supported are the ones who have turned on me, voting to support California's Prep #8. claiming the gay fight isn't really an issue of civil rights like their fight was.

I'd love to give these people the opportunity to experience again what it feels like just in case too much time passed for them to remember. Think of it - we could all vote to resegregate the schools, and to restrict certain neighborhoods.

I wonder what it would be like to own slaves? I bet if you get them young enough and train them they become excellent workers!

This is what we can have when we put civil rights issues on the ballot. We can reinstate slavery! somehow it does't sit well with me that the only civil rights the public can vote on are gay civil rights.

LOL next you homos will want to marry your dog. Gays have all the same civil rights as normal healthy thinking people do. They want "special" rights and thats bs. Just hold a ceremony and pretend to marry your queer partner or your dog or a sheep whatever. You do NOT deserve any special rights in this country. The entire nation is against queers marrying. Get over it already.

Joe

All Fags do is Fuck each other in the ass and spread AIDS. I wish they had all died in the 80s and 90s.

Daniel

They want the right to marry and get all the tax benefits that "normal healthy thinking" people get. Seems fair to me.

Really they should just take all marriage benefits out of the govt and make it strictly a religious event with no extra entitlements, then that would be fair. Nobody could complain then because "religious" people wouldn't be getting anything gays can't get. But if you're going to give "married" people extra stuff, then you can't unfairly restrict a class of people from sharing in the benefits by telling them they can't get "married".

As for the AIDS thing, wake up already. The majority of AIDS cases IN THE WORLD are from hetero-sex. In this country it's different, but in the whole world it is straight people spreading it. If we followed your logic, all straight people should die for spreading it too. Fool.

Jessix & Daniel, I could not agree with the two of you more. It is the exact thinking of the other two that are in part why our country is SO FUCKED. It is not that any gay person is this world is asking to be treated better than anyone. All they are asking for is EQUAL RIGHTS.

In recent studies it shows that Hetero marraiges have a 60% divorce rate. In data from other countries where gay marraige has been around for years, they have a 1% divorce in almost a decade. So it seems to me that the gays are doing something much better than heteros. I am a hetero and have been married for 12 yrs with two sons, and I say who the hell am I, or anyone else for that matter that should give a DAMN if gays want to get married, let them.

I figure that there is SO MUCH HATRED AND BIGOTRY in this world, that if two people love each other, and want to be together, why should any of the 60% that will fuck up anyway stand in their way.

And as for the self righteous religious assholes out there, you are not god, and don't act like you are speaking for him/her. I always hear these nuts talking about god doesn't allow this, and god doesn't alow that, and you'll go to hell. If you truly believe that they will be judged by god, then SHUT THE FUCK UP, and let them be judgded by god, not you SHITHEADS.
